Steve Frykholm for Herman Miller

In 1970, Steve Frykholm was hired as Herman Miller’s first in-house graphic designer. From that first year, through 1989, he produced a silk screened poster each year for the company’s summer picnic—20 in all. Seven of those posters are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, and 40 years later, Frykholm is still with Herman Miller, as Creative Director.

Up for auction tomorrow, March 7, at Treadway Toomey Galleries, is a lot of six Herman Miller Summer Picnic posters. Estimate $700 - $900.

Read about how Frykholm became involved with silk screening as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa, and see all 20 posters at the Herman Miller website.
